As Lily And Tiny Pearl.......

As Lily and tiny Pearl prefered to relax under the patio yesterday afternoon, the rest of my wild little flock were enjoying the long grass that has an abundance of insects buzzing about within the succulent green miniature forest.
They will be a tad miffed later on today as it will be getting mowed and Saturday will see the removal of the large pile of branches which had become the egg laying place of late.

Nova has a liking of perching on the backs of the charis, although I do discourage her as sharing the patio is one thing but the chairs quite another, as cushions need washing regularly after she has been perching there.

Chickens are quite misunderstood, people don't get to see how close a chicken family is, or how funny they can be, unless of course you keep a free range flock. Mine will run to the driveway when I get home, and often they need to be chased away as they are not afraid of the car. Like dogs they know when their human arrives home. They come to say hello in their special chicken way and always underfoot when the shopping is being unloaded.
They also always come to sit under the patio when I am out there, and have learnt that if a plate appears they might get a treat and like dogs will give you that pleading look for a tidbit. When the cats are in their enclosure the chickens are never too far away, the fascination goes both ways the cats are also completely fascinated with the chickens.
Chickens are very social creatures, they are funny and have some rather odd quirks.
Plus they enjoy a nice cuddle now and again and they bring so much life to my garden, plus they keep it pest free. These eight chickens have found themselves in chicken paradise for the term of their natural lives...
