Someone....

Someone was so overjoyed to see me yesterday that each time I sat down he was either snuggled next to me or on my lap.
Animals really let you know how they feel about you, their feelings transparent. Which is why I prefer spending times with animals instead of with the increasingly complicated human race......

First It Was....

First it was a gentle drizzle, then the thunder and lightning began. And when the downpour started I couldn't stop smiling.
At last a much needed heavy shower of rain.
Did I mind getting drenched opening the gate when I arrived home?
Not a bit.
Seeing the garden being pelted with such intense force, the plants seemed to be in a frenzied dance as the wind tore around them. It was a beautiful sight. It was wild, even a bit savage as the force of the storm hit.

This morning all is still, raindrops decorating all the plants twinkling in the soft morning light.
The air fresh.
The garden almost humming.

Everything has been replenished, even though I water the garden all through the summer, there is more oxygen in the rain than in tap water. Also because rainwater is more acidic it releases stored up nutrients from the soil,  thus prompting a good feed for the garden bringing everything more energy.

Hopefully this will mean that summer is over at long last and rain continues to fall regularly for the next few months.......

Being....

Being silent and still as much as possible especially now in a world that has seemingly gone mad seems to be the only way I find peace.

Luckily here where I live things have remained pretty much normal compared to the rest of the world this past year. There have been a couple of short lockdown periods other than that life has flowed. What has become apparent is that each and everyone one of us should be grateful for waking each day in good health. It's not just the global health crisis that has prompted this post, but that people in general are not grateful at all. Many seem to like to gossip and argue, some thrive on drama and in this current world age that sort of behaviour is pointless.

One of the people close to me has had three loses in the past three weeks, someone's house burnt to the ground, then another friend of hers was found dead one morning and then today she learnt that another of her friends had lost a son. Recently as well a submarine was lost and all on board died. Then of course there is covid.
Life is fragile, and none of us know when our last tomorrow arrives.
We need to be grateful for all of our senses. Grateful for good health. Grateful for having work. A home. Food. A warm and cosy bed at night.
For people who love us.

There is so much to be grateful for.

Life is about tragedy and loss as much as it is about happiness and joy.
And it's about gratitude.
I have a deep gratitude for the natural world too, for all the life forms that struggle to survive as the natural order of things is shifted due to the interference of the humans.
I do take the time to be grateful for the oceans, the forests and all creatures who have made it this far.
I am grateful for waking each day.
I am grateful for a garden to tend.
For place to reflect as the chaos out there gets out of hand.

Time is precious because none of us know when our last day will be.
We ought to be grateful for having time.
And we ought to spend our time wisely doing things that bring feelings of happiness and contentment and with people who see us with their hearts.......

Sitting And Waiting....

Sitting and waiting for a couple of hours in the front garden after retrieving my camera waiting for a pair of tiny spotted paradotes to reappear. I noticed them while watering the garden and rushed to grab my camera.
Did they reappear?
No!
But I enjoyed the ambience of the front garden while I waited and waited and well, waited.  I have heard them recently as I have learnt to recognise their song. And it seems that this is the time of year they visit the garden. They are however quite shy it seems. The spotted paradote is one of australia's smallest birds, hopefully I will get some photos soon.
I wasn't alone in the garden for long though, one of the new holland honeyeaters came to pose for a few more photos......

The Grevillea.....

The grevillea nectar bar being enjoyed by a new holland honeyeater, while one of its babies watches from a nearby perch. I have two families of these, one in the front garden and one in the back. The habitat I have created means that they are successfully breeding a couple of times per year. They know that the garden is a safe haven, and predators limited.
Given that it is still unseasonably hot when I water the garden in the afternoon the current families come for a quick bath under the spray from the hose. The fact that these tiny birds feel safe enough to come so close to me is priceless......

Flowers and Bees...

Flowers and bees and the magnificent dance of nature.
Forever evolving, but seldom witnessed by those constantly distracted by doing, too busy to stop. Or collecting meaningless things.
How blessed we are to have such miracles surrounding us, another realm of scents and beings so fascinating, colourful and tiny.
Wandering in my garden is always an adventure, for no two moments are the same as the cycle of life continuously unfolds around me......

Nala Pondering....

Nala pondering whether or not a jump to the top of the wardrobe is possible.
Can I do it?
Hmm, maybe not.....

Not Sure.....

Not sure I like being woken from my morning nap by the bed being pushed around!
Will this human of ours ever make up her mind where she wants the bed to be?

Poor Charlie, asleep one minute, then the motion of the moving bed had him looking a tad green! Not sure how long the bed lasted in that other position, but I just couldn't get use to having my back to the window.
What's the point of having windows if you can't see out of them?
Plus the kitty kids get back another morning sunning spot, and also a very good vantage point for bird watching.
But more importantly I get to enjoy the view of the garden from bed while sipping my morning coffee........
