The Rainbow Serpent...

The Rainbow Serpent is a creator god according to aboriginal dreamtime legends.
The story of the Rainbow Serpent varies amongst the different aboriginal nations.
She was a great multi-coloured beautiful serpent that shaped the land and controlled the waters, some say it was female, others say male, some yet again state it was androgynous.

I sense she was a female, grounded and productive in birthing reality.

It is believed that the rainbow serpent emerged from beneath the earth during the Dreamtime.
The space before time began.
She then carved out the landscape alongside other ancestral beings that assisted in creating the land, animals and people.

The Rainbow Serpent represents different aspects in different first nation cultures.
Creation and transformation, given that her movements wove the environment into existence. She is also the connection from the past to the present. She symbolises renewal and change.
She is also linked to water and life. Some nations believing that she controls that rain cycles to ensure that land remains fertile. Others say she protects the rivers.
Lastly, law and order. She is the enforcer of traditional law, she punishes those who disrespect the land. She also promotes harmony with nature.
Oneness.

I am always drawn to artistic interpretations of the Rainbow Serpent.
Especially ones that represent her beauty.
This particular piece has just been put up in the Zig Zag Cultural Centre in Kalamunda, and the photo really doesn't do it justice as it is a very large impressive painting.
Next time I am in I will ask about the artist who created this stunning piece...

Butterflies...

More Moments...

More moments from Lake Leschenaultia that I had not posted, taken around a month ago. Each visit to the lake always brings different views...

Penumbra...

Penumbra is a photographic exhibition currently on at The Zig Zag Cultural Centre in Kalamunda.
As the tile of the exhibition suggests, the artist has focused on partial illumination of her subjects, the play of shadows and light.
It was interesting seeing the photographs exhibited unframed, or mounted in some other way. Perhaps the artist decided that should people wish to purchase a piece of her work, then they would prefer a frame of their own selection?
It was engaging viewing these, I guess because I too like to create with a camera, I always like seeing things from another perspective.
My eye prefers a far different kind of imagine. But that's what art of any kind is all about isn't it?
Self interpretation and expression...

I'm Wondering...

I'm wondering if Charlie is developing a foot fetish?
He spent ages sniffing Miss Bear's toes this morning...

A Morning Meander...

A morning meander around my garden is always a pleasure, especially when there are so many visitors, both feathered and furry. Although I noticed two bunnies, only one came to eat the oats I threw out for them. As well as many rose chested cockatoos one of the quendas was also present. I am not sure if she might have joeys in her pouch as she was quite full around the tummy.

As well as enjoying my colourful and cute visitors I took a moment to see what was in flower. Two hakeas are in flower, as well as several of the grevilleas.
I am not sure how my flower meadow will fare this year, now that the rabbits and quendas have moved in. It normally self seeds, and I am not sure what shoots will attract my fluffy garden inhabitants.
I have noticed that the fennel is a bunny favourite, as are the nasturtiums. The artichoke is going well, so I at least I will have those to harvest. So far, only one calendula has been able to make it to flowering.

I really am blessed to have a garden filled with so much life, the chickens take it all in their stride and despite all the varying species, there is never any quarrels nor aggression...
