The Magnificent Hakea Laurina...
The magnificent Hakea Laurina in all her glory is certainly a sight to behold, the flowers unlike any others I have ever seen.
Their flowering is a highlight each year for me in the garden, the scale like coverings on the bracts are slow to open, yet when they do it still takes a few days for the flowers to bloom fully.
Bees disappear completely from view as they burrow in deeply in search of nectar.
Their scent too subtle for the human nose to detect, the insects, butterflies and birds however are drawn to its delicate bouquet.
The flowers draw me in to admire them each year, I am endlessly fascinated by these otherworldly blooms and spend many hours appreciating the beauty they gift to my garden.
A native to Western Australia known as kodjet by the Noongar peoples, the plant has become popular in Italy and the US used as street trees or hedges for the wow factor they offer when in full bloom...

As Autumn Rains...
As autumn rains and warm sunshine nourish the earth fungi is popping up almost everywhere I have been in the past week.
Fungi are a sign of healthy soil, so I am always overjoyed when seeing them in my garden.
In the wild they are vital for a robust ecosystem; I find them intriguing and will always stop to admire them.
Autumn is a beautiful season, watching the plants being revived and flourishing once again brings joy to the soul...
A Short Visit...
A short visit to Coal Dam Park to see if I would be lucky enough to see some of the resident South-Western snake-necked turtles.
As it happened there were quite a lot moving around beneath the surface, yet it did prove difficult to capture them due to the light, however I did manage a couple of decent photos.
There was a lot of movement under the surface which I enjoyed watching in the warm sunshine. They are fascinating creatures and I always feel somewhat privileged to see them.
More native flowers were blooming here adding a flash of colour on the banks of the small lake.
And much to my delight I discovered a couple of mushrooms sprouting up from the fallen leaves...
