And A Chick.....

 And a chick is born.

Woke this morning to find that Brulee had hatched her baby, she got pretty irate when I took the two plastic eggs away though once I saw that baby had arrived.

I was told by the local produce store that with the intense heat over the past two weeks that the chick may not survive, apparently hens are unable to alter their body heat and therefore they advised that the chick may not make it given that with mums body heat and the heat of the weather it may have been too much for the chick to cope with.
Having picked the egg gently up yesterday to see if I could hear any pipping from inside the egg, I heard nothing and did wonder whether baby was still alive.

But then I discovered the empty shell.

Still waiting to get a proper glimpse of the new arrival as it is nestled under mummies feathery body.

Having hatched sometime during the night little one arrived with her entire family surrounding her just the way it should be, chickens have been raising their chicks long before the intervention of man and Miss Pearl and Miss Opal were cuddled around Brulee when I went to let them out this morning, Aslan has been keeping a very close eye Brulee, Maple was happy to forage in the garden on her own while the rest of the chickens kept close to the new arrival.

The other girls have been very quiet and keep popping into the nest box to sit next to Brulee, it is so humbling to witness.

A beautiful blessing of life...........

Hopefully, she/he will be zooming around soon. Fingers crossed it is a hen so I can keep her.
