13 Kilometres West.....

13 kilometres west of our first destination we also went to explore this nature reserve. Once the coastline the white sand felt out of place so far from the oceans edge. The coastline now is 32 kilometres west of here. The ecosystem in this area vastly different from the ancient boulders and red clay earth not that far away. It really highlights how dramatically diverse the bushland is here in Western Australia.

In this area there are 13 species of reptiles not seen elsewhere including a shovel nosed snake we didn't see one of those but did encounter a goanna having a snack of ants on the path. As we allowed him to slowly move off into the undergrowth it was easy to see how well these  goannas' camouflage themselves.

Many of the plants here are also not seen elsewhere in Perth's bushlands, we also learnt that the marri trees are now endangered. We discovered one huge marri tree and spent quite a while admiring her height and the beautiful movement in her bark as t twisted around her vast trunk.

The sandy paths made the walk a good workout, who needs the beach when these hidden sandy tracks are so close by....

The goanna is an odd looking critter to my eyes.

They are rather cute little creatures.
