Coming across a couple of bobtails mating was an extraordinary moment.
I was prompted to turn to look into the dried brush, seeing scales and then realising that it was a pair of bobtails and not a snake I relaxed.
Bobtails, (Tiiliqua rugosa) are amazing creatures.
They will seek out the same mate each year, and give birth to live young, the babies stay with their parents for several months, when they do move on, they don't move far. The young stay close to their parents setting up a colony..
