Visiting Mundaring Weir yesterday and enjoying a meander around the gardens as well as admiring the endless vista of trees disappearing into the distance.
The highlights of the visit was seeing two kookaburras high in dead tree, their laughter at one point filling the air. The other most fascinating discovery was a tree growing through another tree. It was the most incredible thing to come across. A moreton bay fig and grown up through a cape lilac tree which had split the trunk in half on one side of the tree. I had never seen such a thing before and was surprised that both trees were still alive and seemingly thriving.
There is also a massive moreton bay fig tree that was the grand dame of the garden. She is enormous and had an extremely regal presence. Home to many as she towers up towards the heavens and a great food source when fruiting.
The bees were busy on many of the flowers blooming in the garden and a loquat tree was full of fruit another feast for possums and birds.
I did spot a lookout high up on a hill across from where I was so I zoomed in for a closer look. Come winter I shall be hiking up there to get a different perspective of the weir and to see what else can be discovered along the way...
