Muppet the pup and Charlie Drake the proud father working together to caretake and keep a watchful eye on Charlie's adorable babies. Not my precious babies but those of a friend whose passion is ducks and chickens and soon to be turkeys.
Raising chicks in your back garden is a such a miraculous experience, having had two clutches of chicks at the cottage I can say first hand how magical it is to be present when the peeps from the egg shell are replaced with the appearance of a wet newly hatched chick.
Hatching is quite a family affair, with my small flock all the chickens were present as the tiny babies slowly immerged from their shells. Aslan the proud father softly cooing as one by one the babies appeared. Often one of the other hens will sit with the proud mother as sort of a midwife I suppose. At my friends place Muppet appears to be keen to do this job.
If all humans were to gently raise and nurture chickens or ducklings, in fact any form of animal life in their gardens not for the purpose of eating or other harm, but rather to love and protect how different the human race would be.
Kindness is disappearing swifter than ever in this fear fueled world.
Not all view animals as I, not all see their intelligence and their deep bonds, their love. Not all witness the interspecies cooperation and deep friendships that develop when humans encourage such connections.
Those of us who choose to surround ourselves with animals and nature are a vastly different breed to the city dwelling humans who have lost their connections from the land.....
