Through the window I gazed as the rain poured down. This didn't stop a lone new holland honeyeater from feasting on grevillea flowers. There are several families of new holland eaters that dwell in my garden, they are quite territorial birds, and although small, they will band together and chase off larger birds, this technique is referred to as mobbing.
They breed in the winter and the summer, and depending on the season their nests will differ. In the winter months they will build their nests at the top of a bushy plant, facing north. This assists in the nest keeping warm in the cold winter months. In the summer they will build their nests lower and towards the middle of a bush, to keep the nest cooler.
They are very difficult to photograph as they are constantly on the move.
So I was elated to capture a few good photos of this one as it flitted about in the rain...
