On a whim this morning I decided to take an early morning drive as a birthday treat. I had noticed a place called Mount Observation that I had never heard of before and it is only a 20 minute drive away. So, off I headed for an adventure.
The minute I went outside I was ecstatic, because it was a wonderful misty morning. And I hadn't driven in this kind of weather since I left the UK.
I can't begin to tell you how excited I was. Because, this is my absolute favourite kind of weather!
As it happened I lost the internet connection along the way, because I was basically in the middle of nowhere. When the offline map prompted that I had arrived I was a little bit confused, because there was no sign post to direct me to Mount Observation. No hint of a track or road either.
I never bothered to take a look at the map before I set off.
So I parked the car, took a few photos of where I was, and the glorious fog that was still hugging the earth. I thought, well should I just go a little further, or go home and check the map again?
I was so excited by the weather that finding Mount Observation wasn't that important anymore.
I opted to go home.
Driving back I pulled over to take a few atmospheric shots of the misty morning. One side of the road was still shrouded in mist, the other side was clearer as the sun slowly warmed the earth.
Further along I stopped along the road once again, in the Wandoo National Park this time, this same park that Mount Observation is in, but obviously in the other direction, and I noted that the park seems to go around a lot of farming land.
What had caught my eye was the amount of spiders webs that were glistening in the soft morning glow as the sun made it's way through the trees.
So I just had to go and have a closer look.
Wandoo trees are eucalypts, and one that hold cultural significance to the Noongar people.
I noted that the wandoo forest is much different to other areas of bushland forests I normally see. There is a huge gap between the trees and much more of a sturdy understory.
I have decided that I am going to head out to Mount Observation again over the weekend, and in the future I will also go back the this part of the wandoo forest to hike the tracks that lead away from the road. So lots more adventures ahead...
