After thrashing rain early yesterday morning that was so heavy and violent I got up to see if it was actually hailstones. Peering into the darkness I was surprised to discover it was only rain.
Having a tin roof the noise had woken me with a start as the sound was explosive.
Seeing that the weather up to this point had been slow to deliver any meaningful rainfall, I went to Lake Leschenultia to see whether it had actually made a difference to the water level.
Overnight the level of the lake had crept up onto the sand quite a bit.
This was encouraging.
It was the overflows surrounding the lake which I wondered had been filled at all.
I was astounded to see that all were full.
The day before these areas were still dry, empty of any moisture.
Depressingly bare.
As I approached the first area I was greeted by a chorus of frogs, out enjoying the replenished wetlands.
To see all of these areas full after one night of rain was rather surprising, because these are not small areas.
The lack of rain had been a worry, I was still having to water my garden in June, which I haven't done before.
Thankfully the drought has finally broken, it rained on and off yesterday and as I type rain is pattering upon the roof.
I am always grateful for this relaxing sound.
The bushland as well felt revived.
The scent in the bushland after rain is glorious.
It's a smell that is so uniquely Australian.
This aroma delights the senses and soothes the soul...

Beautiful photos! July 1st is Canada Day here, and it is also moving day! And we are in a heat wave! Temperatures are expected to soar to 40 or higher. I am extremely grateful I am not moving. I plan to stay in with the air conditioner, this kind of heat kills. Thank you for sharing.
That water is so blue! I love it. The sky too. All the animals and birds. And there is a green thing that looks like a four leaf clover.
