Weeip Park in Midland is named after Whadjuk Noongar leader Weeip, he was a Boora clan elder who negotiated a truce in 1834 easing the clashes with the European settlers.
This park was opened in 2020 in honour of his memory and legacy.
This is certainly a beautiful tribute to a very important man during these turbulent and unsettling times.
There is also a moving tribute to Cassius Turvey a young Noongar -Yamatji boy who was brutally assaulted while walking home from school.
Cassius died from his injuries on the 23rd of October 2022.
The park has a playful energy, there's an oval, youth zone, climbing wall, basketball goals and lots of public art, which I think given the history of the land a happy vibrant park really is the best way to celebrate these two people...
