With fires raging out of control for the last week, today I welcome a grey sky with the promise of rain to extinguish the fires completely. Having had to evacuate once with the cats after hearing a tannoy announcement put out as a vehicle drove around the streets urging people to leave for their own safety I did indeed leave.
Thankfully the cottage was safe. Unfortunately thousands of animals lost their lives in what must have been the most terror filled moments of their lives. 81 homes lost and thousands of hectares of bushland burnt to the ground.
To make matters worse when firefighters were already stretched to capacity fighting the out of control blaze a person or persons were purposely lighting fires in my immediate area and in other country towns, whatever depraved human doing this hopefully will be caught and dealt with.
Finally the helicopters have stopped flying over the cottage on route to refuel behind the cottage, it has been like a war zone since Monday with the amount of helicopters in the air.
Rain is on it's way as I said as a cyclone works it's way down the coast heading south. It has certainly been a week I will not forget quickly......

So pleased to learn you were safe, Gemel. It was a horror week. Hopefully the rain will soak and refresh the burnt landscape.
I'm so sorry to hear this on so many levels. Here in America, we've heard about the fires, but since I had not seen anything in the news about it lately...most likely overshadowed by all the covid and vaccine crap....I had assumed the fires had been dealt with and over. Sending hope for rain to put out the fires.
