Another visit to see these beautiful girls before my friend's stint of pet sitting is over.
This time we took them outside hoping the natural light would help capture their beauty better. They don't keep still very long as they hang upside-down nibbling on the leaves also the wind continually rustled the foliage. making it a challenging photo shoot.
The spiny leaf insects are absolutely incredible, native to northeastern Australia. In the wild their eggs fall to the ground and are taken by ants, who mistake them for seed pods. The eggs mature in the ant nest until hatching, when the nymphs make a dash for it out of the nest before the ants realise there is an imposter in their midst...
