Clouds Drifting Slowly In...

Clouds drifting slowly in, the promise of rain lingering teasingly.
Humid and hot, dashing from one shady canopy to another to check on the garden and my chicken folk. Hopefully we will receive a decent downpour, my garden is lucky, it is watered daily, water bowls replenished, the bushland and its creatures are not so nourished.

The watermelon seedlings have all survived this insane heat, and first flowers are appearing which means, first fruits will not be far off. It astounds me how such fragile little plants can survive in full sun during the harsh Western Australian summer. A calendula flower so delicate, yet also another warrior plant, despite the heat still she blooms.

I have relocated some steppingstones that the chickens had buried under piles of sand into the flower meadow.
The meadow is albeit baron this time of the year.
Hopefully the lucerne tree and banksia tree planted in the meadow will provide more shade as they both mature. This will keep the meadow cooler and the plants last longer. The little steppingstones will be placed snuggly into the earth giving me a sturdy pathway through the meadow when in full bloom. The glass birdbath will look extremely lovely when surrounded by flowers in the cooler months.

Under the patio the lettuces are thriving and growing stronger each day, and thus far my chicken proof fence has worked. The girls a little frustrated that they cannot help themselves to fresh greens...
