Birds Busy In......

Birds busy in the front garden feasting on the grevillea flowers was a pleasant way to spend a very hot afternoon. They are very small birds yet not the tiniest of the gardens feathered residents.  These new holland honeyeaters have had several broods this year, the latest chicks are now joining their parents in the garden. They are quite skillful nest builders and use bark and grasses and bind these together with spider web. Very clever! I like watching the family bath time, which of course happens when I never have a camera in my hand.
They are constantly on the move so getting a photo can be tricky, although like most of the birds that come to or live in the garden they do allow me to get quite close.

There was a white butterfly on the white kangaroo paws.  These kangaroo paws still haven't fully opened, hopefully soon though. There should be a lot more butterflies appearing as all the buddleia bushes are in bud, once the flowers open the butterflies come all day long. As will the bees and other pollinators.

Although in the back garden the bees were already busy on another grevillea bush that is beginning to flower for the second time this year.  This one is such a otherworldly flower. So colourful and unusual.

Finishing off with a photo of the green kangaroo paw, which is as striking as the black one. Western Australian wildflowers really are fascinating as each species have so many different varieties. Having them in the garden doesn't just keep the wildlife happy, these blooms are an endless source of joy for me....
