One Of The Most.....

One of the most memorable encounters I have ever had was in Charters Towers Queensland a few years ago, venturing into a park to lay on the ground under the trees observing a colony of flying foxes.
As evening turned into night these magnificent beings all began to chatter and wake up, the noise was incredible and added to this truly amazing moment.
Flying foxes are endangered and there is currently a plan to move this 200,000 strong colony to somewhere safer.
These beautiful creatures feed on fruit, flowers, pollen and nectar and play a vital role in seed dispersal and pollination, yet as always the humans are up in arms about the colony thriving and settling in a township.
I found the encounter with these beings to be one of awe, the sheer size of the colony was astounding.
Laying on the grass as they flew above me was something I will never forget, especially as they all took off for the evenings dinner.
I found them fascinating to watch and held no fear about being bitten as I walked through them as they set of in flight.
Natures creatures are all here for a reason and deserve as humans do the right to a peaceful existence.....
