It's been a fascinating month watching the birth and development of tiny Gaia.
Already a month old I have been rather astounded at how swiftly chicks grow, she now has her comb starting to appear and her colour is just beautiful, unlike her mother she has none of the bronze coloured feathers but an all over cream with a few flecks of black here and there.
She still is very wary of being out in the open for too long and if mum ventures out from the canopies of the trees Gaia will scurry along at full pelt to catch up with her, often running back to the bushy cover of plants for safety.
Aslan spends a lot of time with mother and baby, he is so gentle with the little one and I often catch him finding tasty treats for his tiny chick, his role as protector is really quite beautiful to watch.
My chicken family are living a natural and happy life, all their needs are met, they will not be used for food or kept in tortuous conditions like billions of chickens across the planet, they are seen for the individuals that they are, their right to a safe life granted to them until they pass away naturally.
The connection with nature has been lost in the modern societies we find ourselves dwelling in, across the world those like me who through our own gentle ways wish to help to reawaken those who fail to see the being that they eat for anything other than a carcass in plastic wrap found in a supermarket, we wish to help them see that a life was taken so that they may eat, for these unconscious humans we wish them to acknowledge the life that was taken, a life that was lived in fear, suffering and pain just to satisfy the greed of the humans.
If I could save them all I would so that not only chickens but all animals used in the meat industry were able to live a whole and happy life, farmed in a humane way, shown compassion and love.....
