Craigie Bushland is 56 acre conservation site in the middle of suburbia, it has a fenced area protecting the quenda and other wildlife from domestic predators. It varies from Marri forest to banksia woodland and despite hearing the drone of traffic in one area of the bushland, it really does feel you are miles away from the houses that surround it.
It's also part of Bushland Forever, which is a world class plan for protecting the irreplaceable flora and fauna which is at risk of being lost forever due to continual clearing of the precious native bushlands.
Although there was evidence of quendas, I didn't see any. Although, I know from the quendas that live on my property, they are masters of hiding from view. I was fortunate to catch a glimpse of a female magpie collecting twigs for her nest building. It's a fascinating process watching birds creating their nests, I was able to watch a pair of new holland honeyeaters nest building a few weeks ago, it was truly amazing.
Some wildflowers were dotted about adding flashes of colour. I also noticed a pair of rainbow parakeets protecting a tree hollow where they had either eggs or hatchlings. It really is a urban paradise and worth a visit if you live in Perth...
