Little Chick....

Little chick was taken to a small farm animal auction on Sunday as sadly I needed to find him a new forever home.
He was really traumatised by being taken away from his mother and family and the whole process left me struggling as well.
He did settle down in his cage once at the auction as soon as some rather lovely chickens were placed next to him, what bothered me though was how cruelly some of the little hens and roosters were treated by the people who had come to sell them.
He drew a lot of attention with his colours and was actually purchased by the people running the auction stating that she loved roosters so fingers crossed he has a happy life.
What did impress me was that the people running the auction were aware of a ring of Chinese people here in Perth who are running cock fights and do the rounds trying to purchase roosters for this barbaric practice.
No roosters are sold to any of these people and they are turned away on arrival.
For those who have never had the pleasure of having the gentle and nurturing presence of a rooster in their garden they do not know how special these little beings are. Roosters are very loving towards their flock and only become aggressive if their flock is under attack or they are abused themselves.
So to learn that the hideous practice of making them fight is going on here is heartbreaking, and I cannot conceive of why anyone would want to go and support such a revolting thing, watching two terrified roosters attack each other to the death.
At least my little man will not end up at such a place.

Gone also are the ducklings, I witnessed them flying off late Friday evening to finally enjoy life on the lake......
