Mrs Willy Wagtail....

Mrs willy wagtail is busy once again brooding another clutch of eggs, whilst her mate zooms in and out delivering food to her. Since I happened upon her a few months ago this is her third set of eggs. The chicks are ready to fledge in two weeks after hatching.

As with all wild birds, if food is readily available, they will have several clutches of eggs each year. This little duo certainly is thriving. I did wonder about their choice of nesting site over the lake, yet it has proved to be a perfect place. The male is constantly chasing away larger predator birds with great success and ferocity I really admire.

The summer heat has taken its toll on the delicate flowers surrounding the small lake, the petals looking withered from the heat and drying winds. The last week thankfully has given us a bit of respite from the soaring temperatures, which has inspired me to get out and about once again...
