Yanchep National Park was my destination today, the reason was to try to catch a glimpse of the koala joey that has recently made its public debut. Mummy koala looked tired and I was only able to capture glimpses of baby partly out of the pouch. I took lots of photos of mum as she was settling down to sleep in the rather warm spring sunshine. The other koalas were all high up in the trees. It always takes ages to spot them, as you will see they camouflage extremely well.
As well as seeing the koalas I had a good wander around the park, minding where I was walking as snakes will be beginning to come out of hibernation now. And given most of the snakes in Western Australia are highly venomous, you really don't want to get bitten. Antivenin is needed rather swiftly if you wish to survive a bite from snakes in Western Australia. I didn't get to see any which always surprises me here, as the wetland is a vast area and the ideal environment for them.
There were quite a few flowers in bloom. Lots of interesting and ancient trees. And many birds were seen feeding on the grass and a large flock of rainbow lorrikeets were making a racket up in one of the trees as they were mating.
Yanchep National Park was first opened in 1957, apart from the fabulous wetland and koalas there are also several caves and numerous trails to walk. I keep meaning to return to walk more trails in the cooler weather, but being nearly 100 kilometers each way, it is not a drive I do often...

Such a beautiful place to explore. I love the Koala shots. She does look a bit tired. Taking care of a young one is hard work.
