Exploring a different pathway at Kings Park Botanical Gardens, in an area of the park I had actually never been to before.
Unlike the main touristy part of the park which has manicured parkland and purposes planted native gardens featuring plants from across the vast state of Western Australia, this pathway instead led to bushland that was basically natural.
The only troubling sign was the amount of dead trees.
Over the past few summers we haven't had as much summer rains which is normally the tail end of cyclones, working their way down the coast. Perhaps it's the lack of water that's responsible for many large trees sadly withering to dry wooden skeletons. A lot of the understory plants in one particular part had also died, which was an equally troubling sign.
Returning the way I had come, instead of doing a loop, I enjoyed the scenery a second time.
It's interesting what you see when you turn around.
Two highlights was seeing a lone pink fairy orchid, the other an old tree which had been carved into a zany character...
