Yagan Memorial Garden..........

Yagan Memorial garden is situated in the Swan Valley overlooking a vista of the foothills and the gently winding Swan river.

Yagan was a Noongar warrior who played a key part in the resistance against the white settlers. A bounty had been put on Yagan dead or alive and when he was finally killed his head was removed and sent to London in 1833. Kept as a curiosity in a Liverpool museum for a while, it was then placed into storage and eventually buried in 1964.

The local Noongar community had been attempting to have Yagan's head returned for many years they were finally successful in 2010 and his head returned and buried here in a traditional ceremony 177 years after his murder.

The garden has a serene feel even with traffic zooming steadily past, my favourite chair is the bright yellow one overlooking a field that leads down to the river with the Darling Range rising up in the distance.......
