The ever adorable Charlie having a moment.....
The daily adventures, musings and wanderings of an earth guardian and garden fairy. My love of nature and all of Gaia's creatures is expressed through my photography, where I hope to inspire others to reconnect with the bounty of loveliness that surrounds us...

Sometimes.........
Sometimes it's not always easy being the only male in the house.
Charlie can give as good as he gets, but this morning he certainly met his match with a very surly Nala. The little paw swipe to his bottom whist retreating is priceless.....
Having Been ....
Having been asked a few times recently why I choose to spend my time alone either at home or wandering in nature. I replied nature doesn't play games, manipulate, enjoy drama, blame, indulge in gossip, carry grudges nor have expectations.
Plus being around people there is always too much talking!
Sometimes I wonder whether people just speak to hear their own voice, to fill in the silence because that is confronting.
Humans are a complicated and often needy bunch, luckily I work one on one in the community and don't have to deal with the normal goings on in a work environment. And as for my private life, well that is far more harmonious the less humans are involved. Plus there really is a lot to gain from actually being alone.
In the media those who are alone are often portrayed as less than perfect. Like there is something wrong with you if you don't have a significant other, or hordes of friends. Being alone takes a bit of getting use to, and in all honesty it's not for the faint of heart, because learning to be on your own in this superficial world we live in takes a great deal of courage.
I have seen people cling to others or situations out of fear of being alone, in fact I have done that in the past. But when you actually let go of the fear and decide to embrace being alone changes come and all of them are good.
There is nothing worse than being lonely while surrounded by others, and loneliness is not the same as being alone.
Loneliness is about not being seen for who you are, or taken advantage of due to lack of self worth.
The greatest insights come when I spend time in solitude. I have also seen how I might change to fit in or compromise my principles just to have "friends"around me.
Living alone has taught me to watch what being with others actually brings into my realm. And to notice the changes of my energy when with others, to look at my own behaviours too. Living alone has also taught me to trust my intuition more, that doesn't mean I always listen when my intuition speaks. I still make mistakes and get myself into situations that sometimes get murky, but there always comes a point where I understand that something needs to change, and the change is always the same.
Spend more time alone. And see what it is you need to learn.
Those who are always busy doing and never still enough to simply be miss out on so much. Those that struggle when on their own maybe need to look at why they can't be alone.
When we think that our happiness depends on someone else that is selling ourselves short. Learning that we don't owe anyone an explanation for what we need to do for our own peace is empowering.
Being alone is taking ownership of your own life.
It's about enjoying your own company.
It's about learning to see with more than your eyes.
It's about spending time delving into behaviours and patterns and seeing what you have learnt and what you still need to work on. It's about seeing yourself warts and all, and loving yourself regardless......

The Grandmother.....
The grandmother of my garden, the towering jarrah tree.
A silent yet powerful protector. Her presence emanates out across the garden, she is home to countless creatures and offers shade and food. She is acknowledged by me each day, and always touched when I pass her by, never neglected nor unseen........
That Day....
That day of the week again where a normally ten minute task takes way longer than that!
Sheet changing is certainly a lot more fun than it use to be.........

Happy To See.....
Happy to see more signs that autumn is here, although by midday it was warm enough to chase me inside for a few hours. The flame tree next door is losing its leaves, and at the same time the flowers are beginning form, and one actually beginning to flower.
The golden afternoon light brings such a softness to the garden, it's the best time for a wander.
Aslan has taken Bella as is favourite hen, tending to fuss and guard her more than the others. All of the chickens are in different stages of moulting and feathers are blowing about everywhere in the garden. At least it isn't really that cold, so hopefully they will all be fully feathered before the cold weather hits. Teenage rooster Pluto has found that one of the gardens chairs is a great place for crowing. The two roosters seem to get on pretty well, I actually think that it takes two to keep an eye on six hens who all take off in different directions on a regular basis.
Many of my grevillea plants are in bloom, they are all so wildly different, and so otherworldly. Sometimes I would love to sit down with the architect of the planet and ask what they were thinking when they came up with grevilleas. Seriously they are weirdly beautiful and always amaze me.
The kitty kids were desperate to go out in their pen after me being out of action for most of the week. Bird watching is becoming a favourite pastime, they are getting particularly fond of early evening for going outside. In their pen they can stalk to their heart's content without any lives being taken. The birds have all worked out that they are safe and sometimes I think they tease the cats by going very close to them on purpose.
One of my white bottlebrush bushes in flower, I have two planted fairly close together, but they rarely flower together. And the pincushion hakeas are still attracting a lot of bees.
A new holland honeyeater was dining on a grevillea in the front garden and a pair of magpies were running across the grass searching for leftover chicken treats.
Feeling grateful for finding such joy from simply being in the garden.
Life doesn't need to be complicated.
Being quiet and still, watching the ever changing tapestry of my little patch of Gaia brings a richness to my soul. No day is the same, no moment the same, life continues to unfold around me in silent grace.......
