A Bag Of Rice...

A Bag of Rice for a Saturday Child seemed a rather unusual title for an art exhibition. That was until I read the artist statement.

"When I was nine years old standing next to my Pua Pua (grandmother) at a temple in Canning Vale, she pointed to a sculpture of Naga - a Burmese dragon and told me she bought me from my mother for a bag of rice. It was, she said, a sign of good fortune for a child born on a Saturday."

With those words in my mind I found the exhibition had a disjointed energy, and I found myself a little off kilter. Some of the pieces I found somewhat disturbing, I left feeling unsettled...

I see what you mean. It does make one feel a bit disjointed. Such an interesting set of work.
