The First Rain...

The first rain of the year is always a joyous event, a sudden unexpected deluge of a drenching shower, accompanied by  howling winds which thrashed their way through the foliage had the garden saturated in mere seconds. Puddles forming little lakes across the parched thirsty earth. I could almost sense the sigh of relief from the garden. Nourishing lifegiving rain.
There's nothing quite like it after months of dry hot dusty weather.
Intense and over in minutes.
The chorus of birds singing in delight with their appreciation for the cooling water was a symphony to the soul.

The chickens dashed to the safety of their night box as the storm reached it's crescendo. The ducks like me were silently merging with the water, allowing the cleansing barrage to wash away the heat of the long hot summer...
