With Over A 1,000...

With over a 1,000 species of acacia or golden wattle native to Australia, it is no surprise that come spring a glorious wave of yellow illuminates the bushland.
There is something so utterly cheerful about seeing this bright sight, it induces a smile and fills the heart with joy.

The wildflower season hits its peak around September, I have mentioned before that the wildflower season in Western Australia is often referred to as the greatest flower show on earth. And what a start to the season it is, I love going out to see the wonderful and unusual blooms that are only found here, each year I discover a few more new blooms that I have never seen before.

As well as the acacias there were many other wildflowers in full bloom. Near the granite outcrops I noticed several species of native orchids. The couch honeypot flowers had drunken bees spinning inside these glorious blooms having indulged a little too much on the delicious nectar.
There were also grevilleas and many pea flowers decorating the landscape. As with the acacia, there are around 1,100 varieties of flowering peas in a wide range of colours, purple, orange and red varieties were seen today.

The only disappointment was seeing how low the water level was once getting to the falls. With winter nearing its end this is a real concern.
Despite the low water levels, the sound of the rushing stream was soothing, the ambience enhanced by the warmth of the sun and the delicate chorus of the birds...
