Visiting my favourite kangaroo family last week had me more than a little distressed, so much so I dashed to the rangers office to get a ranger to come and check on one of the does.
Her pouch looked very swollen with red scratches and dried blood on her fur which looked to be infected. I couldn't locate a ranger at first, however I noticed one of the parks supervisors crossing the picnic area and shouted to get her attention.
I showed her the photos on my camera and she contacted one of the rangers on her two way radio asking someone to go and check on her immediately.
I explained where I had seen her and her rather mischievous joey. The joey had disappeared into the pouch before I had taken the photos of her. I explained that the joey wasn't overly big, yet her pouch looked somewhat swollen.
In the time it had taken me to find someone to report this meant that she could have already moved on. Anyway, I was at least happy the rangers were now aware and one was on their way to go and check on her.
On the way to parks administration office I spotted the rest of the mob closer to the parks museums and shops.
It is quite something to see these magnificent marsupials bouncing across the road.
It never fails to leave me in awe.
These were the smaller of the group, the very large buck or boomer had already disappeared into the bush before I was able to pull over and get a couple of photos.
I have tried checking in this week to see if the doe was found, and if they can do anything to assist her. Unfortunately, I was not able to make contact with anyone as yet, but I shall continue to try and get an update...
