Sunday morning started off like any other sunday morning, I woke up, made a coffee and answered messages to friends back in the UK. I had just written to one friend that I planned on going to Lake Leschenaultia to have a walk. My intention was to pop in to say hi to Em and Nic at the kiosk after a meander around the lake, grabbing a coffee and of course a cookie or two as well.
Mere seconds later I noticed that I had a message on my phone, and I was happily surprised when I saw it was from Em.
Love the way the universe works, when souls are synchronised!
Opening the message, well I am glad I was sitting down because Em had invited me to a special luncheon at their restaurant The Flackyard.
The Flackyard is a beautiful intimate restaurant that overlooks the serene view of Lake Leschenaultia, and today's lunch was a special event,.
From Country to Plate.
This was a 5 course degustation led by Chef Daniel Lyndon of Bimba Foods an indigenous chef with matched wines from Mitu Wines, Florence Drummond being the first indigenous woman to own a wine label.
This event was something super special and I felt so extremely privileged to be attending, and I am still getting goosebumps as I write, because this event moved me deeply.
It took me an nano second to reply, YES I am coming.
There is a photograph of the menu ten photos down, (click on it to enlarge if its too small to read.)
My meals were tweaked a tiny bit not being a meat eater, but I can tell you, each mouthful was utterly scrumptious.
Chef Dan combines cultural storytelling with his food, to me, it was art on a plate, it was more than a meal, it was magical.
In actual fact the experience touched me so much that I have become teary as I write as I want to convey how incredible this meal was.
Each plate of food was exquisitely presented, this was a process that came from the heart.
Not only did Chef Dan use storytelling through the symbols on the plates but he also uses traditional bush tucker, such as native lemongrass, warrigal greens, cured emu yolk and many more tantalising delectable morsels that left each guest quietly savouring every mouthful as subtle flavours lingered.
The Wines from Mitu Wines, (Mitu meaning, me to you,) were wonderful and Florence is a passionate and beautiful woman whose vision for her wine label is far from ordinary, with deep cultural tones of respect for the land, connection and being grateful.
This was more that a fine dining experience it was set up to bring people together, the tables arranged in a large horseshoe which prompted strangers to chat, it was all about creating connection.
Partway through the meal a bowl of crystal hearts were passed around, each of us invited to pick the one that spoke to us. A little later still we were invited to share why we picked the heart we did.
I had never experienced fine dining where such a deep message of love was flowing so freely.
.
Through the meal Em created amazing mocktails with a wonderful combination of bush fruits and spices adding to the unique flavours.
Each mouthful was a journey of the senses.
The Flackyard is a beautiful space where everything has been done to make sure that you don't just come for lunch, you come for an experience.
And Sunday's lunch is an experience I will never forget.
It was food for my soul...
