Being grateful for the simple things is something I'd forgotten to do as I was weighed down with health issues and other life stresses. I had become overburdened with trying to get through each day and would dive under the covers as soon as I arrived home.
A conversation yesterday though, reminded me that being grateful daily is a very wholesome and healing practice. And one that I did practice regularly.
Today as I was getting ready for work I realised that I am grateful for my beautiful hens, who preen themselves each morning in front of the mirror outside my bedroom window.
The mirror was never intended to live permanently leaned up against the cottage.
But when I saw that the chickens actually went to look at themselves each morning, well, I couldn't bear to move it. They adjust their feathers just so, take a look in the mirror again, and on it goes. Until, they are satisfied with the final result.
It always makes me smile watching them, as I myself am usually preening at the same time.
We really do need to be grateful for the small things in life.
The things that money simply cannot buy...
