Blossom was in heaven, after putting one of our own blankets on the stone floor to ensure that she did not catch a chill, I lit the fire. Within minutes Blossom was settled in her basket as close as she could get to the warmth as the room began to thaw. Bless her heart, she was one contented kitty, she stayed firmly in her basket as the fire raged during the morning, afternoon and evenings. Blossom bliss! Coming upstairs with us at night after we had barricaded the open railing of the mezzanine floor and stairs off so that she would not have a lethal accident while we slept, after the fire went out it would be too cold for her down there alone at night. What we did learn though from our first night was to let the fire die down about an hour before retiring, while madame loves to be as warm as toast, we found we went to sleep in a sauna that first night, hot air rises, why did I forget that!
