Kangaroos lazing and grazing will always stop me in my tracks, no matter where I am.
The western grey, or black face kangaroos live in family mobs where an adult female is the matriarch, which is surprising when you see a buck or as they are commonly referred to a boomer standing at full height.
They have muscles on their muscles are are intimidating just standing still. It's quite impressive knowing that one of the smaller females keeps the mob in line.
This little family is always found at the same place, near the Mundaring Weir, thus whenever I am in the area, I always go to see if I can find them.
One of the females had a joey in her pouch, it was wriggling around, so I was hopeful I would get a glimpse. It was probably quite a big joey given how much her pouch was moving.
Mum was grazing happily, and after I had spent time photographing the rest of the mob, I went back fairly close to her and sat down to wait for the joey to exit the safety of the pouch.
Mum was just about to settle down on the grass. Then to my annoyance, another car drove by and scared her, and she bounded off quickly.
I did however get a shot of her pouch opening, but not of the adorable inhabitant hidden within...
